Bonding or Composite
Composite material has the look of enamel
and is applied to the surface of a tooth,
where it is then sculpted, shaped, contoured,
and polished to look like a natural tooth.
The repair of chipped or broken teeth may
be done via this procedure. Composite is also
used as a filling material after a cavity
is removed or replacement of an old amalgam
(silver filling).
Onlays
Onlays are also known as indirect fillings,
and offer a long lasting reparative solution
to tooth decay or similar damage. Onlays offer
a conservative preparation that preserves
as much healthy tooth as possible. Onlays
are used in situations where a filling is
not strong enough to maintain the integrity
of the tooth but a crown would be too aggressive.
Crowns
Crowns are used to protect and strengthen
teeth. Many times a crown is used in situations
where there is more filling material than
natural tooth. There are three types of crowns.
